Comment: I am embarrassed to say that this review is way late due to some family priorities, but I wanted to let others know about Greg and Cheryl and their good work. I contacted Spate painting because of their video review and thought that I would give them a try. First let me say that my husband and I had an instant comfort zone with both Greg and Cheryl and I am usually not comfortable with new people being in my home. Their quote was very reasonable for the amount of work that we wanted done, which was a lot. They were on time and very responsive to us. I am pretty particular, so I did ask them to come and touch up a few things. I loved that they were responsive and positive when they arrived. They made sure that all our needs were met and left with us feeling like we would use them in the future. Greg and Cheryl, sorry this took so long. Life kind of interrupted my plans!! I strongly recommend Spate painting for your cabinet painting needs.

Comment: Greg did a great job on our kitchen. I was quoted over $5k by multiple places for a lacquer based paint, which needed ventilation to get the fumes out. We have two kids so didn’t want them breathing the fumes. The Aristoshield by Dunn Edwards Greg used was an awesome alternative. No fumes, and very durable. Not to mention almost half the price of lacquer. It’s been 6 months and they still look like the day after they were painted. I highly recommend Greg’s company Spates Painting.

Comment: Greg and Sheryl of Spates Painting are truly the best at what they do: taking ordinary cabinets and making them extraordinary. We recently purchased a home and noticed the cabinets throughout the kitchen and home were worn and outdated. The one big project we wanted to have done ahead of moving in was repainting the cabinets. We searched high and low and requested many quotes before settling on Spates Painting. My wife and I felt that Spates Painting really specialized in cabinet painting and after our consultation, felt they were perfect for the job. We even had them paint and freshen up our banister since they were here already doing the cabinets, and they brought in extra help to get the job done. Not only were they a delight to work with, but they explained the process thoroughly as the project went on which meant a lot. The end result was magnificent. The entire house just feels fresh and vibrant with the newly painted cabinets and banister. In the end, Greg and Sheryl took us through a final walk through where we found a few minor points we wanted touched up and they were so kind to make sure all were taken care of ahead of signing off on the job. Our family is so grateful for Spates Painting and the way their work transformed our home! Dont hesitate to give them a call if you live in North San Diego or Orange County!

Comment: What a great experience working with Spates Painting. They were a pleasure to work with, did quality work, and even went above and beyond when we had a last-day request around the finished look of the cabinet doors. I would highly recommend them for a project of this size and scope.We have been debating painting our own cabinets for some time now. The kitchen looked pretty tired and worn. I am pretty handy with a paintbrush and thought maybe I was up to the task of spraying them myself. But after doing lots of research and looking at the scope of the project (37 doors/panels and 23 draws), we finally decided that we would rather have them done professionally.Next we had to find a company that had the appropriate experience with painting cabinets (not just a generic painter). But in looking through and talking with 5+ vendors, we realized we missed an important part of this decision... the paint product. The decision came down to Lacquer (oil-based) or Latex (water-based) paint products. When we went through this process, we reduced the finalist down to one company that used one or the other paint products. Then we allowed them to try to sell us on why their paint product would be superior. There were lots of pros and cons to wade through. For us, we chose a company that used Latex. This would allow me to do later touch-ups as needed (where as a Lacquer based solution tends to have a 6-month shelf life and touch-ups are a bit more challenging in general).Finally, we chose Spates Painting. They were not the lowest bid but were not the most expensive either. Having done some painting of bookshelves with latex, I was pretty concerned with the finish of latex on the cabinets. But, in hindsight, I used the wrong product. The product that Greg uses is Dunn-Edwards Aristoshield. What a product... seriously, it acts like an oil based product but with the cleanup of water. I would highly recommend you do your own research on this paint. It is awesome for finishing cabinets.The finished kitchen looks amazing. We had a dark mahogany finish and now we have a brilliant white one. It brought our 15+ year old kitchen back to life. The finish on the cabinets look like they have been factory sprayed. One last note, we did have one problem where one of the doors did not finish properly. We did not notice it on final inspection, regardless, Greg came back about 2 weeks later and refinished the door with no questions asked. I would simply say, we would chose Spates Painting for this project all over again.

Comment: Greg did an amazing job on my kitchen. From matching the paint, to prepping the kitchen thoroughly, and removing old hardware and installing new hardware that was a different size. He is a cabinet expert. I also had a very badly damaged cabinet that needed tremendous repair and he made it look brand new. I am very pleased with their work and would recommend them to anyone looking to repaint their cabinets.
